In order to make education more equitable, China has invested 36 billion to improve educational facilities in rural areas and strengthen the rural compulsory education in the central and western regions of China. The fund has been used to improve teaching facilities and buying books. 160 thousands primary and secondary schools have benefited from it. The fund has also been used to purchase music and painting equipments. So nowadays, children in rural and mountainous areas can also have music and painting lessons as children in coastal cities. The children once transferred to city schools in order to receive better education now come back to the local rural school again.

Chinese educators have realized the significance of reading to our country for a long time. As early as 2003, some educators had suggested setting up the National Book and Copyright Day. They emphasized that people should read good books, especially the classics. By reading books, people can better learn to be grateful, be more responsible and cooperative, and the precise purpose of education is to cultivate these basic qualifies. What’s more, reading is particularly important for primary and middle school students. If they fail to cultivate the interest in reading during this crucial period, it will be difficult for them to develop reading habit in the later time.
Chinese educators have realized the importance of reading for the country. Some educators recommended the establishment of national reading day in 2003 . They stressed that people should read books, especially the classical works. Through reading, people can learn to be grateful, to have the sense of responsibility and to work with others better, and the purpose of education is to cultivate these qualities. Reading is very important for primary and middle school students, if they do not foster interest in reading in this key period. It is very difficult to develop the habit of reading later.
